Dr Umesh Patel

Dr Umesh Patel studied medicine in Manchester, England and was a radiology registrar and senior registrar at the University of Manchester. Umesh completed Fellowships in interventional, oncological and MR imaging during 1989 to 1992.

Having been awarded a Nycomed Scandinavian scholarship to the University of Copenhagen, Umesh studied interventional uroradiology during 1992 and 1993. Following this study, Umesh worked as a consultant radiologist at the Doncaster NHS Trust during 1993 to 1995, before moving to Australia and joining Central Queensland Medical Imaging, part of the I-Med/MIA Network, from 1995 to 2003. While in Central Queensland, Umesh was the supervising radiologist for MRI for the RANZCR training program and senior lecturer for the Central Queensland Medical School.

Moving south down the Queensland coastline, Umesh worked at South Coast Radiology for two years before rejoining the I-MED/MIA Network. Umesh currently works four days per week at Gold Coast Medical Imaging and one day at Southern X-Ray Clinics, Wesley Hospital.

Umesh has been appointed to the RANZCR steering committee for Accreditation Guidelines and Quality Control and has published articles in Neuroradiology, British Journal of Radiology and Clinical Radiology. Umesh continues as a VMO for Breast Screen Queensland.

Umesh's special interests include vascular radiology (diagnostic and interventional studies); hepatobiliary, gastrointestinal, renal and pelvic interventional radiology; and musculoskeletal imaging including MRI.

A keen sports person, Umesh played representative cricket for Lancashire County, England and continues to pursue an active lifestyle playing golf, squash and rowing on the Gold Coast waterways.
